and Glossary

Aileron - a movable surface on an aircraft wing, it is used to control rolling

Angle of Attack - this is the angle that the plane penetrates the air

Axis - the line in which the rotating body turns

Backlash - a sudden or forceful backward movement, recoil; a strong negative reaction

CA or Cyanoacrylate - instant glue that is ideal for assembling wooden airplanes or models

Carburetor - device for mixing vaporized fuel with air to produce an explosive mixture; the part of the engine which controls the speed

Elevator - any hinged surface that provides the plane with the ability to climb or dive

Nitro - fuel additive that increases an engine's high speed performance

Rudder - any hinged controlled surface that allows left or right turns in the air

Stall - when the engines stops or fails to continue to run

Throttle - the valve that controls the flow of fuel to the engine

Torque - the force which produces rotation

Washout - a lower angled twist in the wing tips

Wing - the main lifters of an airplane
